Writing career goals

Writing Career Goals

Common among all writers is the occasional “writer’s block”. And for non-professional writers, it can be difficult writing career goals. We have some examples of writing career goals, but here are some tips to get started:

  1. Write your career goals with pen and paper first. Most people are tempted to use a computer when composing career goals, but it’s too much like work. You will not get into a broad state of mind, and you’ll feel like you are doing a work assignment. There is something about writing with a nice pen on well made paper that gets the creative juices flowing. In fact, many self-help professionals recommend this when doing any kind of goal setting or personal planning. A great book for personal effectiveness is “Getting Things Done”, by David Allen. He highly recommends composing with fine writing instruments. Also, it is an excellent book for getting organized.

2. See yourself one, five, and fifteen years from now. Where do you want to be in your career? Write your career goals in a logical progression based upon where you are in your career. But keep the long term vision in mind.
