Resumes That Sell
Read the following and it will explain why I recommend Guerrilla Resumes guide. It is written jointly by David Perry and Kevin Donlon. I have followed David for a while and like his approach.

Have a Resume That Makes A Statement About You
Whether you use a resume distribution service, or are sending resumes out on your own, you must have a document that reflects you.
I received a resume the other day from a resume distribution service. I have been on their distribution list for years. Usually, the resume is in the body of the email, so I don't have to open the document, but I'll take a quick look to see if it is someone I can help, if they live nearby, etc.
Something about this email caught my attention. I read the cover letter and opened the email. The person's background was mostly in IT, but had little in the way of skills that seemed to be current.
And the person apparently had not worked in six years, and there was no explanation as to why.
It was your basic, boilerplate resume and distribution email, that did nothing to differentiate this candidate from anyone else. My advice was:
"I would personalize your cover letter, get some of your personality in it. Maybe you can have some testimonials from people you worked with, quotes from them about your strengths.
I assume you are using a resume service to distribute this, but you have to be more proactive in making the email yours. Get a good headline going - "Been on the beach for 6 years and ready to make a difference in your company".
Something to get someone interested in you - not your resume."
Whether the person will make any changes is unknown, as I received no response.
But the advice I have is to diligently prepare and review your resume.
It is a selling document. You only get one chance to make a first impression.
