Does social networking work for Accounting and Finance job seekers? Are you into any of the many social networks? Recently, a blogger said that most Gen Y people don't look at job boards, because they don't need a job. More often, a friend will say - "Hey, dude, you gotta check out this job." Perhaps that accounts for the apparent diminishing role of monster, hotjobs, and careerbuilder.

But if you are looking for a job, would you go the route described in the article below? Of course a media person looking for a media person would have the rules outlined. But does it apply to Accounting and Finance? Article from US News & World Report (see link at bottom of article.)

Although there are signs of a slow down in the New Jersey, as well as national economy, the job market is still strong in our area. Good companies are selectively adding to their work force. For job seekers with strong skills in their industry, and a track record of progressively increasing responsibilities, there are opportunities to consider jobs with top companies.

Of the many Accounting career paths, historically, the most advantageous from a career development standpoint is public accounting. The starting salaries have always been higher than private accounting jobs. In fact, starting salaries are expected to increase almost 8% in firms, according to a recent study by Hotjobs and Robert Half.
